These are the notes taken from our last School Improvement Team meeting held at Hibbard Elementary, May 12, 2009.

Hibbard School Wide Planning Meeting
(5/12/09)
Attendance: Scott Shirley, Principal
Natalie Crowder, 1st grade
Diane Pierce, 2nd grade
Rachel Ashmore, 3rd grade
Ranae Powell, 4th Grade

A School Wide program is a comprehensive strategy designed to upgrade the educational program in a Title I school; its primary goal is to help all students, particularly those who are low-achieving, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of accomplishment on State academic achievement standards (IRI or ISAT).

Goal: Help all students become good, solid readers; specifically students who score a 2, or low 3 on the Idaho Reading Indicator.

Items discussed:
AIMS web is a great tool for monitoring students’ performance in reading fluency.
More collaboration is needed between the teachers and the Spec. Ed. / Title One teachers.

***Is there a way that AIMS passwords can be shared to allow Spec. Ed. and teachers to see the same student results or graphing tables? Concern is that there is double duty being done here.

Strategies for accomplishing Goal:
* Have the IRI Monitor test all students in the fall, including the 4th graders.

* Encourage specific collaboration between grade level teachers and Spec. Ed / Title One.

* Have an aid and/or parent come into classrooms for a specified time to take over class while teachers and Resource have time to collaborate during school hours.

* Create teacher-to-parent training videos to help parents know: how to increase fluency, help with decoding, help with comprehension, understand Words Per Minute and how to test child, etc…

An update was given on how the parent committee is doing on the expenditure of parent involvement funding.
